The Akhil Goa Mandir Suraksha Samiti calls for 'Goa Bandh' on 20 October
Panaji (Goa): The Akhil Goa Mandir Suraksha Samiti (AGMSS) intends to undertake a statewide Dharmajagruti campaign w.e.f. October 15th in order to create mass awareness to curb the deplorable series of desecration of idols of Hindu Deities and Saints in the State. Likewise, a ‘Goa bandh’ is being called for on Monday, October 20th. This was told by AGMSS in a press conference held here in GUJ office. In the recent past, 17 incidents of desecration of idols of Hindu Deities and Saints have occurred in Goa. The recent one being the desecration of the dome of a small temple of Sree Rakhandev Aajoba, a deity which is seat of faith of the residents of Cuncolim at large, on the day of Dussehra i.e., on 9th October. The most striking feature of these incidents is that the police have not succeeded in nabbing even a single culprit in all the above cases. Thus, the temples of Goa have become insecure. Home Minister Shri. Ravi Naik had stated in the Goa Assembly that idol desecration incidents are ordinary incidents. Panchayat Minister Shri. Babu Azgaonkar has made a ridiculous attempt to cover the failure of the police and the government in nabbing the culprits by saying that Hindu organisations are involved in such desecration incidents.
Temples are the seat of faith of idol-worshipping Hindus. In this regard, the agitation staged by the residents of Cuncolim stands as an ideal. The AGMSS has extended its total support to the same. Thus, the AGMSS intends to undertake activities such as making announcements over the loudspeaker at public places in all Talukas of the State, holding meetings in all villages, etc. from 15th October to 19th October. It has also called for a ‘Goa Bandh’ on the 20th October. The AGMSS appeals to all Hindus to fulfill their duty towards Dharma by participating in its above campaign. AGMSS Goa State Co-ordinators Shri. Vinayak Chari, Shri. Rajendra Velingkar and Shri. Jayesh Thali and Shri PRabhu of cuncolim were present art this press conference.
